Elsewhere, Gerrard Nash has been appointed the lead Under-18 professional development phase coach, while Adem Atay will take up the role of Under-18 professional development coach.

Nash and Atay both previously worked at Ipswich Town and will now work alongside Karl Hooper who works with the Under-18s, while experienced coach Sean Verity will take on the role of assistant academy manager and assistant head of coach development.

Klopp gets wish as Villa braced for major Premier League decision

Aston Villa’s season will be cut into two by the 2022 Qatar World Cup and the festive period is set to be impacted as a result.

The traditional round of Premier League games between Boxing Day and New Year is being dropped in a bid to help player ease burnout after the World Cup, according to The Telegraph. Matches that are usually played on December 28 will be moved to remove concerns around fitness and injuries as the World Cup ends just eight days before Boxing Day.

Removing the round of fixtures between Boxing Day and New Years Day is something which Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola have been campaigning for. Reds boss Klopp claimed it was “not right” that players were forced to play three games in a matter of days after Christmas.

McGinn reveals what Villa need to do after double transfer

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has commented on the transfer business conducted by the club so far ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

McGinn, 27, has been heavily involved for Scotland since the ending of the 2021/22 domestic season as the Villa midfielder started all four games for the national team, including the disappointing 3-1 loss to Ukraine which ended Scotland’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

His most recent involvement came in last nights victory against Armenia, where McGinn recorded a goal and assisted to help his side to a 4-1 win. Speaking in the aftermath of the 4-1 victory in the Nations League, McGinn turned his attention back to club football by commenting on the transfer business completed by Villa so far, where he outlined how ‘exciting’ the deals have been.
